National Alliance on Mental Illness
Support and education for mental illness
About the Organization
The National Alliance on Mental Illness is a grassroots mental health organization dedicated to better lives for people affected by mental illness. It describes itself as the nation’s largest group of that kind. Local NAMI affiliates, a HelpLine, and resources for family caregivers give people somewhere to start when they or someone they love is struggling.
Public information covers finding care, understanding a diagnosis, crisis support, and day-to-day issues such as work, housing, and insurance. The alliance combines education and advocacy with peer support so mental illness is met with practical help rather than isolation.
